Cut is the most important C: it defines how light enters and reflects. An excellent cut returns maximum sparkle, even above size or color. We always work with excellent polish and symmetry.

Shallow Ideal Deep

An ideal cut captures light and returns it upward (maximum brilliance). If it's too shallow, light escapes through the bottom; if it's too deep, out the sides. At BRAVORA we always work with an ideal cut.

Color measures the absence of yellow tones: the full scale runs from D (colorless) to Z. The more colorless, the rarer. At BRAVORA we always work in the highest range; D, E and F are completely colorless. Slide to see how it changes.

BRAVORA standard: D, E and F (colorless)

Clarity describes the tiny natural inclusions inside a diamond. The fewer there are, the higher the grade. Slide to see them under 10x magnification.

Carat is the weight of the diamond, not its size. At equal quality, a fine cut makes the stone appear larger. Choose the shape and slide to see it on the hand.

The photograph on this page shows a sample diamond with F color, VS2 clarity and 2 carats, with excellent polish and symmetry to ensure maximum light refraction.

It's the minimum quality we offer under our standard, which is already excellent. We send back any gems that don't convince us, and that's why we don't let you choose the diamond online: there are details we can only judge in person.

IGI certificate

Every diamond over 0.5 carats comes with its certificate from IGI (International Gemological Institute), an independent gemological laboratory that verifies its characteristics. So you know exactly what you're receiving.

On your certificate you'll find: 1 Cut· 2 Color· 3 Clarity· 4 Carats.It also includes the measurements, polish, symmetry and the number laser-inscribed on the diamond.

Important: only round-cut diamonds receive a Cut Grade on the certificate; the system was designed for the round brilliant. Fancy shapes (oval, emerald, pear…) carry no such grade, so we choose them ourselves by examining their proportions — table, depth and girdle — to keep the one with the finest characteristics.

The bowtie effect

In elongated cuts (oval, pear, marquise) we watch for the bowtie effect: a bowtie-shaped shadow at the center of the gem. A pronounced bowtie dulls the brilliance; a well-controlled one keeps the stone alive from edge to edge.

It's one of those details you can only judge in person, gem by gem. That's why we choose every stone ourselves.

Elongated gemstone ratios

The ratio (length-to-width) defines the silhouette. These are the ranges we typically use at BRAVORA for each elongated cut:

These are average, indicative measurements. Exact measurements vary with the size (carats) and, above all, with each stone's proportion (ratio), especially in elongated cuts (oval, marquise, pear, emerald): the same weight can look longer and narrower, or wider and shorter.

Size guide

In France, Germany and Portugal, the size is the inner circumference in mm. The Spanish size —the one we use at BRAVORA— is that circumference minus 40, just like in Italy.

The resizing range depends on the model (eternity bands cannot be resized). Check it in RING DETAILS.

How to measure your size

Option A: use a ring you already own. Measure the inner diameter (from inner edge to inner edge) and find that measurement in the Diameter column.

Option B: measure your finger. Wrap a strip of paper around your finger, mark where the ends meet, measure the millimeters and divide by 3.14 to get the diameter.

Tip: measure at the end of the day, when your finger is slightly more swollen.

About the gem's proportions

In elongated gems, the length-to-width proportion (ratio) has a direct influence on the gem's final visual appearance. A higher ratio makes the gem look longer and more streamlined, while a lower ratio results in a less elongated appearance with a greater sense of width. If you are looking for a specific proportion, write to us before or during your order and we will advise you according to the chosen cut and the availability of the gem.

In this product, the ratio of the emerald cut gem varies between 1.30 and 1.50. A ratio close to 1.30 results in a less elongated appearance, while one close to 1.50 offers a more streamlined, elongated silhouette.

All the gems used have a hardness of ≥8 on the Mohs scale, which guarantees their resistance to daily wear.
