AXIS oval bypass setting engagement ring - band detail

What is a bypass ring?

A bypass ring — also called a crossover ring — is an engagement ring whose two arms cross around the stone instead of meeting beneath it. In a classic solitaire the band closes under the gem; here it doesn't close: it keeps going, one arm over the other, and leaves the stone in the middle of the gesture.

It's an asymmetric ring that reads differently from every angle. That's why it works so well with elongated shapes — oval, pear, marquise: the crossover follows the direction of the stone instead of fighting it.

The compass setting

Our bypass is the AXIS model: a single centre gem, held in a compass setting, with the prongs oriented like the cardinal points.

Band 2.0 mm wide and 1.7 mm deep: enough body to wear it every day. It can be resized up to 3 sizes above or below the one you choose.

Four cuts, the same gesture

AXIS oval bypass setting engagement ring in 18k yellow gold

Oval

Ratio 1.35 to 1.50. The most balanced of the three: it lengthens the finger without raising its voice.

AXIS pear bypass setting engagement ring - measurements

Pear

Ratio 1.45 to 1.65. A point that draws the eye toward the fingertip.

AXIS marquise bypass setting engagement ring in 18k yellow gold

Marquise

Ratio 1.85 to 2.10. The one that lengthens most, and the most delicate to set: two points to protect.

Princess

The only square one of the four: the crossing of the band against the straight corners of the stone.

All four from €1,785 with one carat, and with a 3D render before making.

From €1,785 to €2,495: what moves the price

We're not interested in selling you the most expensive ring. We're interested in you understanding what you're buying.

The metal: 14k or 18k gold — yellow, white or rose — or platinum. 14k is harder, 18k more yellow, platinum denser and the most expensive of the three.

The stone: colourless lab-grown diamond, 1 to 3 carats. That's almost the entire price jump.

And this is included, whatever it costs.

  • 3D render before making: you see it and change it before it exists
  • Diamond certificate
  • Handmade in Barcelona
  • Free, insured shipping
  • One free resize, up to 3 sizes up or down
  • Lifetime warranty on manufacturing defects

Frequently asked questions

Can a bypass ring be resized?

Yes: up to 3 sizes above or below the one you choose. The crossing of the band doesn't get in the way.

Does it catch on clothes?

Less than you'd think: the crossover sits in the plane of the finger, not outward. What sticks out is the stone, just like on a solitaire.

What gem and what metal is it made with?

Colourless lab-grown diamond, 1 to 3 carats, on 14k or 18k gold (yellow, white or rose) or platinum. If you want it with a natural diamond or another gem, we quote it separately.

Is a bypass ring the same as a toi et moi?

No. The toi et moi has two stones, one on each arm. The bypass has a single centre stone; what crosses is the band.

Is the diamond certified?

Yes. All our diamonds come with an independent certificate, and from 0.5 carats with their IGI number engraved.

What if I get the size wrong?

We include one free resize, up to 3 sizes above or below. If it's a surprise and you don't know the size, we choose it with you by statistics and adjust it afterwards.
